The History of RE/MAX: From Humble Beginnings to Global Real Estate Powerhouse

RE/MAX, short for Real Estate Maximums, has become a household name in the industry. With over 100,000 agents working in more than 100 countries, RE/MAX has a long history of success and innovation. Here is a short history of RE/MAX and how it became the global real estate powerhouse that it is today.

RE/MAX was founded in 1973 by Dave Liniger and Gail Main, who had both previously worked in the real estate industry. Liniger and Main wanted to create a company that offered a different approach to real estate, one that focused on the agents and their success rather than the traditional brokerage model that prioritized the company over the agents.

To achieve this goal, Liniger and Main created a commission-based system that allowed agents to keep a larger percentage of their commissions than they would at a traditional brokerage. This system incentivized agents to work harder and provide better service to their clients, which in turn led to more success for the agents and the company as a whole.

RE/MAX grew rapidly in the 1970s and 1980s, expanding from a few offices in Colorado to hundreds of offices across the United States and Canada. In 1985, RE/MAX went public, becoming the first real estate company to do so.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, RE/MAX continued to expand globally, with offices opening in countries around the world. In 2013, RE/MAX celebrated its 40th anniversary, having become one of the most recognizable and respected names in real estate.

One of the keys to RE/MAX's success has been its focus on technology and innovation. In the early 2000s, RE/MAX launched its Agent Website program, which allowed agents to create their own websites to market their listings and services. In 2008, RE/MAX launched its mobile app, which made it easy for buyers to search for homes on the go.

RE/MAX has also been committed to giving back to the community through its charitable foundation, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Since 1992, RE/MAX agents have raised over $157 million for children's hospitals across North America.

Today, RE/MAX is a global real estate powerhouse, with over 100,000 agents in more than 100 countries. The company continues to innovate and adapt to the changing real estate landscape, with a focus on providing the best possible service to its clients and agents.

RE/MAX is a testament to the power of innovation, hard work, and a commitment to putting people first. From its humble beginnings in the 1970s to its status as a global real estate leader today, RE/MAX has always been focused on providing the best possible service to its clients and agents, and it shows in the company's continued success.
